HTC has just launched the Windows Mobile 6.5-powered HD2, the brand’s flagship smartphone that bears the distinction of being the first Windows Mobile phone to feature a capacitive multi-touch screen.
It’s a very attractive touchscreen phone, highlighted by a very spacious 4.3-inch screen with a high wide resolution of 800 x 480. The spec list is also packed with the best bits: 1GHz Snapdragon processor, quad-band network support, 7.2Mbps 3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and 5MP camera with dual LED flashlight to go along with the new operating system.

Multiple sensors are also packed in, allowing the phone to sense if it’s picked up, moved or rotated, plus an ambient light sensor that prolongs battery life by automatically controlling the backlighting when it isn’t needed.
For connecting and browsing the web, the HD2 comes preinstalled with the new Opera Browser, and features a Wi-fi router mode that lets it act as a mobile hotspot between a laptop and a 3G network.
The capacitive screen is more accurate and more responsive to touch commands, compared to the resistive screens that Windows Mobile-based phones usually employ. It also comes with HTC’s Sense user interface on top of Windows that lets users customize the home screen by adding shortcuts to frequently-used apps, websites, and contacts.Social networking apps are also supported, with Facebook and Twitter photo-sharing apps and a YouTube uploader.
The HD2 is expected to be released by several Euro-based carriers by the end of the month, with releases in other markets to follow.
