LG has just unveiled the GD510, a new compact touchscreen phone that features LG’s S-class touch interface and an optional solar-paneled rear cover. Simply called the “Pop”, the phone took a page off the Cookie’s formula for success by keeping it simple and affordable–built with a basic feature set to keep the price down and a 3-inch touchscreen for ease of use.
The Pop’s spec list includes a WQVGA (240 x 400) resolution screen, 3MP camera, and 8GBs of internal memory. It comes with Bluetooth connectivity, but doesn’t come with GPS or Wi-fi connectivity to keep it affordable. It’s unknown whether the Pop will come with 3G or EDGE support, but for people who only need the basics, it might not matter. The optional solar-panel rear plate looks to be a nice add-on though.
The GD510 could very well be the most compact 3-inch touchscreen phone ever, with a simple design that includes a brushed aluminum body and a single multifunction button on the face that acts as the menu and end/cancel keys, depending on the mode being used (it lights up red or green to indicate function).
The LD GD510 is set to arrive by mid-October in Europe, followed by other markets. Price for the basic package (as well as for the optional solar-charging panel) is unknown.
