Motorola unveils Android-powered Droid phone

Motorola Droid (3)Motorola has officially announced the Droid, the company’s top-end Android-powered smartphone. Featuring a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen and a slide-out keyboard, the Droid will be offered through Verizon to compete with the iPhone—with the webpage’s concept basically saying “everything the iPhone doesn’t do, the Droid does”.

HDTV brand VIZIO has announced two small-screen HDTVs under their new Razor LED line. The 19-inch VM190XVT and the 23-inch VM230XVT both feature a profile that’s less than an inch thick, and feature LED-backlit panels and energy saving features.

Lenovo updates IdeaPad S12 netbook with ION graphics

Lenovo S12Lenovo now offers new configurations for their IdeaPad S12 netbooks that comes with Nvidia’s ION graphics. The 12-inch S12 previously came with the usual Intel Atom platform (Intel’s Atom CPU and GMA950 integrated graphics) plus 1GB of memory, but the new configurations give the netbook a bit more multimedia punch.

Samsung intros LCD monitors with TV tuners

Samsung has just introduced a pair of desktop LCD monitors, the 2333HD and the 933HD+. Normally, they’d be your ordinary 23 and 19-inchers, but these two come with built-in TV tuners and remotes—essentially making them, well, almost LCD TVs.

i.Tech intros solar-charging BT headset

China-based electronics manufacturer i.Tech has announced a solar-powered Bluetooth headset. Tagged as the SolarVoice 908, the headset’s outer surface is lined with a solar panel, allowing it to charge the internal battery while the headset is worn. The battery’s rated for five hours of talk time and a 140-hour standby. Of course, it can also be charged using a more conventional USB connection, sparing users from having to keep it plugged into an ear to charge.

It’s now shipping in China for the equivalent of $67.

Google intros Android 2.0

Google has officially unveiled the Android 2.0 smartphone OS. Simply known as the “Éclair”, it’s the operating system’s first major update, adding a long list of upgrades and improvements highlighted by a better camera interface, an improved virtual keyboard, and a better Web browser.

Dell has just unveiled the Latitude XT2 XFR, a rugged convertible tablet armed with a 12.1-inch capacitive multi-touch screen that supports gestures. Built to the US military’s 810F spec for dust, shock, temperature and water resistance, the XFR also sports an outdoor-ready screen that’s easier to view under direct sunlight.

Sony Ericsson has put up a page that says they’ll be coming out with their “next big thing” on November 3rd. They’ve also confirmed that the “big thing” will be the newest XPERIA X10 smartphone, SE’s much-rumored Andriod-powered touch-mobile that was also previously known as the “Rachael”, or the “X3”.

Roku outs HD-XR, SD media streamers

Roku has announced a pair of compact network-connected media streamers, which are basically compact set-top boxes that connects the home entertainment system to the network. The Roku HD-XR tops out the range, capable of streaming HD media over the network, while the cheaper Roku SD is attractively priced, but is limited to standard-def playback.

After the release of Windows 7, Lenovo has just updated their line of IdeaCentre desktops and IdeaPad notebooks to take advantage of the new OS. A handful of new systems in one go, but the standout has got to be the IdeaCentre B500 all-in-one desktop that comes with a high-end spec to match the attractive exterior design.
