Intel CE4100

Intel has announced the Intel Atom CE4100, a new family of System-on-Chip (SoC) media processors designed to bring Internet content and services to home entertainment kits such as digital TVs, DVD players and set-top boxes.

Previously codenamed “Sodaville”, the new processor is Intel’s first consumer electronics SoC built using the 45nm process. Aside from handling the usual processing duties, the new chip also supports multimedia (including 3D graphics and HD 1080p video) and Internet applications for a rich multimedia experience.

The enhancements allow the processors to handle graphics and H.264 video playback , as well as Adobe’s Flash Player 10 for handling web content and Flash-based games. An on-demand gaming service that will support the Intel CE platform called GameTree.tv was also announced during the event, and TV Widgets and interactive TV applications should follow.

The processors fill out the new CE4100 line—the CE4100, CE4130, and CE4150–all of which run 1.2GHz clocks and 512MB L2 caches, but have different features. The most full-featured of the three, the CE4150, sports a 400MHz Extreme graphics core, while the rest allots 200MHz for graphics.
