Intel unveils Core i7 processor for notebooks Intel Core i7 for notebooks

Intel has officially introduced the first Core i7 processors for notebooks during the IDF. Previously known as “Clarksfield”, the new mobile processors come with a feature set that’s similar to the existing quad-cored Core i7 processors for desktops—including Intel’s Nehalem platform and 45nm process—but run on less power to prolong battery life.

Three processor models have been launched: the Core i7-720QM with a 1.6GHz clock, the 1.73GHz i7-820QM, and a 2GHz Extreme version called the i7-920XM. All the new processors feature 8MB L2 cache (6MB for the i-7 720QM) and dual channel 1333MHz memory support, HyperThreading tech for splitting the program threads among the four cores and TurboBoost feature that overclocks the cores when more performance is needed. The two QM processors run on 45 Watts of power, while the Extreme i7-920XM features a max TDP of 55 Watts.

Gaming notebook models from Alienware (M15x), Asus (G60J and M60J), and Toshiba (Qosmio x505), and HP (Envy 15 and Pavilion dv8) are already listed to come with the new Core i7 mobile processors.
