Super Talent has announced that they’ll be shipping the 2-Terabyte RAIDDrive solid state disk in early October. It connects to a desktop through the PCIe 2.0 x8 interface and is listed to feature a 4GB/sec bandwidth (which is more than ten times the speed of the usual SATA II bus) and write speeds of up to 1.2GB/sec.
The drive packs four SATA SSDs in the aluminum enclosure, and will be available in three models: the RAIDDrive ES for enterprise servers for fitting into 3U rack mount chassis and features a battery backup module, WS for workstations and uses SLC flash for a max capacity of up to 1TB, and the GS for gamers and enthusiasts that uses MLC flash and is available up to 2TB. Like the name says, all the RAIDDrives can be set to RAID 0 or RAID 5 configurations.
No word on pricing particulars, but the OEM pricing for the 1TB GS drive is set at $4999. Ouch.
