HP has launched a pair of digital displays called the DreamScreen 100 and DreamScreen 130. At 10 and 13 inches respectively, they seem like larger digital photo frames, but they offer a lot more in terms of smarts, features and connectivity over the usual end-table device.
The usual set of features that include photo, video and music playback is available, but the DreamScreen adds wireless 802.11 b/g and Ethernet network connectivity for connecting to online albums on Facebook and Snapfish, as well as for connecting to net radio stations like Pandora and HP’s own SmartRadio service. The interface also gives instant info to add a little bit more functionality, with weather forecasts as well as a clock and calendar.
Both DreamScreen models come with a pair of USB ports and a card reader slot for adding more media, and it can also stream media files over the network from a PC. Built-in stereo speakers are available, but a line-out connection is also present for connecting a pair of headphones or external speakers.
The 10-inch (15:9, 800 x 480) DreamScreen 100 costs $250, while the 13.3-inch (16:9, 800 x 480) DreamScreen 130 sells for $300. Both models are available now.
