MSI has announced the availability of the Wind U210, a new ultraportable that offers a couple of relatively new features: a large (compared to the average netbook) 12.1-inch screen and AMD’s new Athlon Neo processor.
Although the larger screen size has already been expected to happen, but the processor is where it’s at on this new Wind model, which is MSI’s first notebook to run on AMD’s new Athlon Neo platform for ultrathin notebooks. Positioned in a new niche between a mainstream notebook and a netbook in terms of price and performance, the 1.6GHz Athlon Neo MV-40 processor promises a little more performance for multitasking, graphics and multimedia processing compared to what the average Intel Atom netbook might offer while keeping the overall size within the portable 10-to-13-inch range.

The notebook’s spec also includes 2GBs of DDR2 memory, a 250GB hard drive, and an ATI Radeon X1250 graphics processor running the 12-inch HD (1366 x 768, 16:9) widescreen. The Wind U210 is built to be portable, weighing in at 3.2 pounds with a 6-cell battery that’s rated to last for more than four hours. Other features include a 1.3MP webcam, an HDMI port, and a card reader. The keyboard features MSI’s EDS (Ergonomic De-stress) keyboard with relatively larger keys for comfort.
Available in black and white color options, the Wind U210 is available now at Amazon and Newegg for $430 and ships with a Windows Vista Home Premium OS.
