It’s been a bit behind on multimedia capabilities compared to its rivals from Microsoft and Sony, but the Wii has finally added a video streaming service from Media Mall’s PlayOn app. It still won’t compare to Blu-ray or HD video playback, but the Beta PlayOn app at least gives Wii owners straight console-based access to online video streaming sites such as Netflix, Hulu, CBS, YouTubs, CNN, ESPN, and more through the supported device.
Users can download a 14-day free trial of the software, after which a full version can be purchased for $40. The PlayOn app already supports the PlayStation 3, XBox 360 as well as other DLNA-compliant devices that includes HDTVs and digital video recorders.
