Archos has officially unveiled the Clipper, which is basically a tiny, stripped-down MP3 player that looks like the company’s answer to Apple’s iPod shuffle. Built into a slim frame that weighs less than half an ounce, it apparently gets its name from the clip at the back for easily attaching it onto clothing (and not because it’s shaped or has the same size as a nail clipper, nor should it be confused to have anything to do with LA’s other pro basketball team.)
Like the iPod shuffle, the Clipper is built with the most basic controls with skip, play/pause, and volume controls, as well as a shuffle mode for a randomized playlist. It also packs its own rechargeable battery that’s listed to give you up to 11 hours of playback, is PC and Mac-compatible, and supports MP3 and WMA playback. A USB cable does charging and file transfer duties.
It’s available in only one size (2GB) and listed to go for the equivalent of around $33-35, making it considerably cheap compared to a refurbished (last-gen) 2GB iPod shuffle that sells for $59 at the Apple Store, and just around half the price of the new 4GB shuffle.
