We love it whenever a company comes out with something that’s described with the phrase “the world’s ___-est [thing].” Somehow, it makes our lives seem a little bit more interesting. Memory maker Corsair has just announced a 128GB update to their Flash Voyager GT line of performance USB drives, which is described to be–at the very least–pretty fast. It’s refreshing that while other companies have been putting out what could possibly be the tiniest USB drive or the first 256GB flash drive, this one aims for speed. It’s not the most compact nor does it feature the largets capacity, but 128GBs on a fast flash drive is a pretty good thing to have in your pocket (unless you’re lost, in which case some change for the phone booth might be the best thing to have in your pocket.)
Corsair’s Flash Voyager GT line has always been known by, well, geeks, to be pretty fast, and this here is basically a capacity update. To come up with it’s faster-than usual performance, the 128GB Voyager GT is built with a dual-controller for delivering read and write speeds of up to 32MB/s and 28MB/s respectively. That might sound slow in a world that’s steadily filling up with faster SSD and eSATA drives, but compared to average (respectable) flash drives that go as fast as 20 and 10MB/s read and write, this is pretty good.
Corsair also built the GT to withstand reasonably rugged handling with a rubber housing that’s water and shock resistant to add a bit of value for money. If it ever breaks down, it’s also covered by a 10-year warranty, making for a pretty sweet deal despite the $400 price tag.
