Memory maker Kingston has just released a new line of performance-tuned solid state drives under their SSDNow family called the V+ Series. Available in 64, 128m and 256GB capacities, the new line of drives boast fast read (220MB/sec) and write speeds (up to 180MB/sec) for people who need performance.
The V+ Series’ performance is attributed to the addition of a faster controller that gives it more than double the read and write speeds of previous drives. It shouldn’t be much of a problem to upgrade to these newer drives, since they’re built with a standard 2.5-inch form factor, and connect through SATA or SATA II. As usual, thanks to the absence of moving parts, these drives also offer lower power consumption and higher durability compared to regular hard disk drives.
The 64GB model is out now for $254, while the larger 128GB and 25GB drives are expected to be released in September for $500 and $990 respectively. All drives come with a 3-year warranty.
