Hitachi launches first 7200rpm 2TB desktop hard drive Hitachi DS7K2000

After just about everyone else has come out with 2-Terabyte hard drives, Hitachi updates their Deskstar line with a new model that not only matches the storage ceiling of 2TBs, but also adds better performance with a 7200rpm motor. Tagged as the 2TB Desktar 7K2000, the new drive also adds energy efficiency to the mix with power saving tech.

Aside from the faster 7200rpm motor, the Deskstar 7K2000 features a 32MB cache and a 3Gb/s SATA interface for people who need performance from a high-capacity desktop drive. Hitachi also updated their high-volume desktop hard drive family with the new 7K1000.C that also features a 7200rpm motor. The new “C” drives will be built with densities of 500GB per platter, available in capacities of 10GB to 1TB. Both drives also feature Hitachi’s storage technologies for shock protection reliability, and power efficiency.

Pricing information for both the 7K2000 and 7K1000.C drives aren’t available, but they’re now listed as shipping.
