Epson has just announced a new dual-purpose scanner for home and small office use. Named the Perfection V500 Office, the new scanner combines standard document scanning with advanced photo features, and added a bit more in the form of their ReadyScan LED technology for fast scans and low power consumption.

The V500’s features include a 30-page auto feeder that can go through up to three pages per minute, and a simplified interface for easy one-touch scanning. The ReadyScan LED technology speeds up the process for quick scans by using LED lights that don’t need to be warmed up before starting, and of course, consumes less energy compared to standard bulbs.
The scanner also sports a 6400dpi resolution for high-res image scans, as well as a handful of other features for photo and image scanning: a transparency unit for handling negatives, slides and photo film, Digital ICE Technology for cleaning up dust and scratches from film scans, and Epson’s Easy Photo Fix technology for restoring old and faded images by removing dust and reducing grain.
The Epson Perfection V500 Office is PC and Mac-compatible, and will start shipping in September for $349.99. The box will include an extensive software bundle that includes Epson’s Scan software, Adobe Photoshop Elements for photo editing, Event Manager for doing quick scan jobs, and ABBYY Fine Reader Sprint Plus OCR for creating editable documents from scans.
