Details for a couple of new eBook readers from Sony have been accidentally leaked onto the Web in advance by J&R. According to the listing, the upcoming mobile readers will be available in 5-inch and 6-inch screen sizes. J&R’s listing have since been taken down, but the Google-cached pages are still available. Links after the cut.
The 5-inch PRS300-RC Reader Pocket Edition will sell for $199.99, and is designed with a lightweight design and packed with 512MBs of memory for storing up to 350 books. ePub and PDF formats will be supported along with text, RTS, and Word files, and it will feature an eBook Library app that makes it easy to download, manage, and load files into the reader via Sony’s eBookstore and other sources.
The PRS300 is also listed to feature 3 adjustable font sizes for the 800 x 600-resolution screen, 8 levels of contrast, and a rechargeable battery that can give up to 7500 page turns on a full charge.
The 6-inch PRS600-SC Reader Touch Edition will sell for $299, and adds TouchScreen navigation to its feature set that allows users to intuitively turn pages with finger swipes. The 800 x 600 touchscreen also supports freehand note-taking and annotation using the included stylus or a virtual onscreen keyboard. Aside from featuring the same features found on the smaller, cheaper PRS300 (including the 512MB memory), this reader also comes with a built-in Oxford American English eDictionary.
No word on when the new readers ship, but the “pre-order” listing on J&R means that they should be out soon.
