AT&T has added Samsung’s A887 Solstice to its line of touchscreen phones. The Solstice packs a 3-inch (240 x 400), 256K color screen that offers haptic feedback and an accelerometer, but built-in tech has been limited to keep the price down.
It’s no smartphone, although Samsung fitted the Solstice with the widget-based TouchWiz interface seen on other high-end phones such as the Omnia. It supports 3G/HSDPA data networks and sports Bluetooth and GPS, but there’s no built-in Wi-fi. The main camera is also a standard 2MP shooter, and internal storage is limited to 100+MBs, but it supports microSD cards of up to 16GB.
It’s clearly built to be a basic touchscreen phone, but AT&T’s $99 price (with a 2-year contract) places it at the same plan as the 8GB iPhone 3G.
