Dell lowers the Adamo’s price dell adamo

Maybe dropping the Adamo’s price is meant to go along with Microsoft’s Laptop Hunters ad. Maybe it’s because dropping $2000 (and substantially more for the high-spec model) for a stylish laptop that had a rather average spec (compared to others in that price point) just didn’t appeal to buyers. But it’s probably because the MacBook Air—the laptop that the Adamo looks to compare itself with—is way cheaper. Fact is, it really doesn’t matter why. What’s important is that Dell dropped $500 on the entry level model, and $400 on the top tiered model. Everybody wins. (Except for the people who bought the Adamo before the price drop.)

Of course, $1499 for the entry-level version fitted with a 1.2GHz ULV Core 2 Duo might still be a bit steep, but this should make it more competitive when lined up against Apple’s basic MacBook Air (also priced at $1499). The high-end Adamo that runs on a 1.4GHz processor and 4GBs of DDR3 memory now costs $2,299, down $400 from the original price of $2,699. It’s still considerably more expensive than the high-spec MacBook Air that costs $1,799 and runs a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB memory, and Nvidia mobile graphics.

In case you missed it, Dell launched the Adamo a few months ago, highlighted by its slim design and a power efficient spec that puts it in line as the “PC’s answer to the MacBook Air”. The MacBook Air also saw a price drop early last month. Prices for both models dropped $300.
