Pentax’s newest 14.6-megapixel DSLR cam is now available. Priced at $1,300, the K-7 features a 3-inch display, a (very) fast shutter speed, HD video recording, and a compact and light magnesium alloy body that’s resistant to weather and dust.
The K-7 is highlighted by Pentax’s new PRIME II image processor that’s capable of fast 5.2fps shooting and low image noise. The cam is also capable of a fast 1/8000-second shutter speed that lets you catch something on the move, and a 77-step metering system for setting exposure levels. The rear end sports a large 3-inch (921k dot resolution) LCD display that supports a Live View mode for easy shot composition and a dedicated RAW button for easily switching between regular JPG and RAW format captures. For video, it can shoot 720p HD quality clips and output to HD displays via an HDMI port.
In-cam tech also includes an 11-point autofocus system for faster focusing, a Shake Reduction system that compensates for rotational sensor movement, Dynamic Range settings for getting more details in bright light and shadows, and a Lens Correction function that automatically adjusts for distortion and other digital lens aberrations. The K-7 also comes with a new Dust Reduction feature system that adds a piezo-ceramic vibration action to the sensor’s low-pass filter for clean, dust-free shots.
The K-7 can be ordered through the company’s online store or through Amazon. The $1,300 price tag goes for the basic body-only kit, but supported accessories, such as the add-on flash ($480), 200mm lens ($1200) and 55mm lens ($800) is also available through the Pentax Webstore.
