Get ready world, here comes the Google Chrome OS googlechromeos

We can’t say we’re surprised that Google’s finally done it. Straight of the Official Google Blog, the company just announced that it is releasing an operating system called the Google Chrome OS.

Google will be initially targeting netbooks with the Google Chrome OS. The company will be making the code open source later this year, and the OS itself will be available come the second half of 2010. It’s designed to boot up and access the Web within seconds, and it will be running on both x86 and ARM chips. The entire project is centered around the Web – Google will be concentrating on developing Web-based applications.
What about Android, you ask? Google says Chrome OS is a totally different project from Android. Chrome OS is for users who live their lives around the Web, while Android is designed to work on a lot of devices, from phones to set-top boxes. Google acknowledges an overlap however, and it’ll be interesting to see what will come out of that in the future. It sure looks like Google is well on its way to world domination.
