Nintendo’s new novelty: the Wii Vitality Sensor wii%20vitality%20sensor

Nintendo’s E3 press event showed something so unique that it’s starting to get downright weird. The Wii Vitality Sensor is a separate accessory that attaches to the Wiimote to measure the player’s pulse rate from a finger that users slip into the slot.

Now why would anyone want to do that on a game console? Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata says that they made the sensor to encourage players to relax, which is a nice idea until you give it some thought: I have a Wii myself, but when I want to relax, I turn off the console, fix me some coffee, and slip in reruns of “The Office”. I don’t go around the house thinking “I wish I had something for the Wii to tell me that I’m stressed out”. The last thing you want is a device telling you to slow down while you’re playing Wii Tennis with your dog and you’re losing by fifteen.

Nintendo gave no other details for the Vitality Sensor, and there’s no word on what games you can use with it, but we’re thinking of something like Wii Texas Hold’em… or Wii Truth or Dare.
