Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Project Natal makes you the controller microsoftprojectnatal

The Nintendo Wii just might be in trouble soon. The Microsoft Xbox 360 Team has revealed Project Natal, which does full-body motion control gaming without a controller. You don’t need one, because you become one.

Project Natal uses a sensor that combines an RGB camera, depth sensor, multi-array microphone plus a custom processor and software, so you can just step in front of the Xbox 360 and start playing. It senses your movements in full 3D, and even does voice recognition. Microsoft’s demo shows people jumping skateboards, flipping through menus, scanning actual objects and using them in games, logs in to Xbox Live using face recognition – the list goes on and on. Now, as exciting as it sounds, it’s best to reserve judgement until Microsoft actually releases it, which would probably take a while. Will they be able to pull it off? We certainly hope so. In the meantime, we have Microsoft’s enthralling demo video to stare at until we get to see the real thing.
