Varlink introduces ruggedized Trimble Yuma tablet PC varlinkyumatablet

A ruggedized tablet PC for workers out in the field might seem like a good idea on paper, unless you’re the guy who has to go out and work in the sleet and snow. But just think… at least you won’t have to worry about breaking your work PC while you go about your business in miserable conditions.

The Trimble Yuma is an IP67 device, giving it total protection against dust, and it can be dunked in up to three feet of water. Behind that lightweight rubberized frame, you get a very portable Vista-based tablet with a 7-inch (1024×600) touch screen. The 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor it runs on technically make it a “net-tablet”, but it’s specced out for mobile jobs like law enforcement, the military, mapping, and logistics fields—certainly not for students or casual computing tasks.

The feature pack includes Bluetooth, Wi-fi and GPS connectivity, plus two geotag-capable integrated cams, plus a WSVGA touch screen display that’s designed to perform well under the sun.

The Yuma is now available through Varlink’s UK-based site for the equivalent of $4,498.
