Coinciding with the company’s 40th year anniversary, AMD has announced the Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition processor for mainstream PCs. Claimed by AMD to offer the best price-performance by a mainstream processor under $70, the “Black Edition” is unlocked to allow for more flexible overclocking.
Based on AMD’s improved K10 Kuma architecture, the 65nm 7850 Black Edition runs on a 2.8GHz core, a 523KB L2 cache, and a 2MB L3 cache, and supports AMD’s HyperTransport 3.0 technology for a wider 28.5 GB/s system bandwidth.
It’s priced at around $69, the new CPU works well with AMD’s 7-Series chipsets and ATI Radeon HD 4000 series GPUs for an HD-optimized platform that shouldn’t break the bank.
