LaCie reinvents the card reader and the USB key with Data/Share LaCieDataShare

LaCie has decided to put the card reader and the USB key into an all-new form factor and call it the Data/Share storage device. It’s a nifty little rectangle that takes your SD and microSD cards and plugs into your computer via USB.

Each half has one USB 2.0 connector so you can consider each side as one card reader or USB key. It reads the latest SD and microSD cards, and if you use it as a regular USB, it gives transfer rates up to 480MB/s. When the device is not in use, the two halves come together, providing protection to the USB connectors. The color-coded halves also let you divide your data into separate units so it’s easier to find what you need.

The LaCie Data/Share is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems and is backwards-compatible USB 1.1. It’s plug-and-play, and can be had for $10.
