Memory maker Kingston Technology has just announced that their enterprise-class DataTraveler Vault – Privacy Edition (DTVP) USB flash drive is now compatible with Apple’s Mac operating systems. That might not mean so much to some, but for Mac users who need encrypted portable flash drives, this one’s for you.
The DTVP is a fully encrypted USB 2.0 drive that’s protected by a hardware-based 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) security protocol. The built-in security features give it protection from prying eyes, locking the drive down after 10 unsuccessful log-in attempts. When this thing locks down, there’s no way to get to the stored data, so a reformat is needed to make it useable again.
Designed for business use, the drive has read/write data rates that are listed to go up to 24MB/sec and 10MB/sec respectively. It’s also mode durable than your everyday flash drive; the DTVP is built with an aluminum casing that’s waterproof up to four feet.
Now running on PCs and Mac systems, the DTVP is offered with a 5-year warranty and is available in 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32GB capacities priced at $110, $177, $308, $502 and $910 respectively.
