After introducing the Wind U123 netbook at the CTIA show in Vegas, MSI brought out a pair of slim 13.4-inch notebooks, the X340 and X320, under their X-Slim line. The X340 is one of the first notebooks to run on Intel’s 1.3GHz CULV (Consumer Ultra Low-Voltage) platform that uses a fraction of the power of a regular mobile CPU, while the X320 will be running on a 1.60GHz Intel Atom Z530 processor.
The X340 and X320 look pretty much the same, although the more expensive X340 is based on a more power-efficient system with an Intel US15W chipset, GMA500 integrated graphics, DDR2 667 memory (up to 2GB), and a 250GB hard drive. Connectivity includes Ethernet LAN, Wi-fi 802.11 b/g/n, and an optional 3G/WiMAX module for keeping connected. The X340 on the other hand, sports a more conventional mainstream feature set with an Intel GS45 chipset, Intel GMA4500MHD graphics (that goes with an HDMI port), up to 4GB of DDR2 800 memory, a 320GB hard drive, Gigabit LAN, and Wi-fi b/g/n.
Both X-Slim notebooks feature a 13.4-inch wide screen display (1366 x 768 resolution), a 1.3MP webcam, Bluetooth connectivity, card reader, a 4-cell battery, and will come preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Premium OS. The X-Slim notebooks will come in Silver, White and Black colors, and should be out in the market by May this year.
