There are some workplaces that only need black and white text printing. If your small office or home office is one of those, you might find Samsung’s new monochrome laser printers interesting. The company is introducing two new multifunction models, the SCX-5835FN and the SCX-4826FN, plus one basic unit, the ML-2855ND.

The SCX-5835FN (pictured above) is a high-speed unit that can scan print, scan, copy and fax. It’s built for workgroups and is therefore network-ready. Scanned documents can go straight to e-mail, a USB drive, or a network. Security options are aplenty also – this multifunction printer can be set to only do jobs when a password is entered. The SCX-5835FN has a 35 ppm (pages per minute) print speed and a 1200 x 1200 dpi output resolution. It comes with a 7-inch monochrome touchscreen, an 80GB hard drive with document management features, a 1,050-sheet paper tray, and a built-in 50-page duplexer for double-sided printing with an automatic document feeder. As for the price, it’ll set you back $1,099.

The other mono multifunction laser printer Samsung rolled out is the SCX-4826FN, which is also network-ready, but is a lot easier on the pocket than the SCX-5835FN. Priced at $428.99, it’s a compact machine that will save you a bit of desktop real estate. Rated print speed is 30ppm, and scanned output resolution can go up to 1200dpi. It does duplex printing and automatic document feeding, and has 128MB of memory that’s expandable up to 384MB.

The ML-2855ND on the other hand, is for users who just need straight-up mono laser printing with none of those scan, fax, and copy frills. The simple, network-ready unit prints at 30ppm and comes with 64MB of memory, expandable up to 192MB. It sports a humble 2-line LCD display and has a 250-sheet paper cassette with a 50-sheet multipurpose paper tray (an additional 250-sheet paper cassette is also offered as an option).
