It’s about time computer manufacturers breathed new life into desktops, and Dell’s Studio One 19 could be a good omen of for future machines. This stunner has an aluminum shell with a fabric cover. It’s a slim unit all around, with a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. It’s also capable of multi-touch applications – but you’ll have to pay on top of the $699 starting price to get a model that supports it.
If you do decide to go for the optional multi-touch functionality, you’ll get to edit photos, surf the Web, make playlists, jot down notes, and more, just by touching the screen. Even video recording and uploading straight to YouTube, and photo-uploading to Flickr is possible through the touchscreen. Dell also threw in a finger painting and multi-touch percussion programs just for kicks.
Inside the Studio One 19 is a standard machine. True to Dell form, you’ll get a host of options to get the kind of machine you want. Keep in mind though that it gets pricier as the specs get higher. You get a choice between Intel Celeron, Dual Core Celeron, Pentium Dual Core, Core 2 Duo, and Core 2 Quad Core processors. You also get to pick between nVidia GeForce 9200 or GeForce 9400 integrated graphics, up to 4GB of memory, and up to 750GB of hard drive storage. A slot-loading optical drive, six USB ports and a 7-in-1 media card reader are all part of the deal, but integrated wireless, a Blu-Ray drive, webcam, and facial recognition security with webcam are all optional.
The Studio One 19 will be available in Japan on March 23, but it will come to other countries in the spring.
