Inkjets have always been the low-cost printing option as opposed to laser printers, which print faster, but have higher-priced units and consumables. HP is bridging that gap now with inkjet printers that print at laser speeds at pocket-friendly unit and consumable prices that will be available in late March.
HP’s latest crop of Officejet printers consists of the Officejet Pro 8500 all-in-one series, the Officejet Pro 8000 printer series, and the Officejet 6500 all-in-one series. The Officejet Pro 8500 inkjet all-in-one series (pictured above) consumes about 50% less power than color laser all-in-ones, has two-sided printing and uses individual ink cartridges – all of which help keep overall costs down. Rated speeds are 15 ppm (pages per minute) when it prints in black and 11 ppm in color, but HP claims that these can go up to a maximum rated speed of up to 35 ppm in black and 34 ppm in color. The 8500 series can scan, copy, and fax too. An optional 250-sheet paper tray will also be availanle for this series. Prices will go from $299 to $499.

The Officejet Pro 8000 inkjets only do printing, but they also use individual ink cartridges, print with 50% less energy than color laser printers, and has two-sided printing support. Speeds range from 15 ppm to 35 ppm in black and 11 ppm to 34 ppm in color. Prices will start at $149 and will go up to $179.

HP also launched the Officejet 6500 inkjet all-in-one series with four-in-one capabilities. Prices will range from $149 to $199.
All models have wired Ethernet and each series’ higher end models can print wirelessly. They also come with automatic document feeders.
