Sony VAIO notebooks to use Qualcomm’s Gobi technology

Sony and Qualcomm have teamed up to embed Gobi mobile Internet technology into VAIO notebook PCs. Qualcomm’s Gobi solution will give VAIOs high-speed 3G connectivity, and Sony has opted to make Gobi a standard in several of their VAIO models.
Gobi will enable you to use broadband Internet anywhere in the world as long as you have mobile phone reception. This will spare you the hassle of looking for hotspots and switching between different wireless Internet options. In addition to high-speed 3G, Gobi also provides GPS functionality.
Sony will start off by embedding Gobi into three VAIO notebook models – the TT, Z and P. The company says models with Gobi will vary per world region however, and of course there will be a service charge and other fees.
