Mobile manufacturer HTC announced that they’ll be updating two smartphones along their Touch line of touchscreen phones. The HTC Touch Pro 2 and Touch Diamond 2 will be available within the year, with both new models running on a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS, but they’ll be ready for an OS update as soon as Windows Mobile 6.5 becomes available. As usual, both will feature HTC’s TouchFLO 3D interface on top of the Windows Mobile OS.

The HTC Touch Pro 2 features a significantly larger 3.6-inch (480×800 resolution) screen compared to the 2.8-incher on the HTC Touch Pro, which was released last year. Featuring a slide-out QWERTY keyboard (which can now be tilted up for more comfortable typing), the Touch Pro 2 will retain its predecessor’s 528MHz Qualcomm mobile processor, as well a number of its other features.

This quad-band smart phone connects to HSDPA 7.2 Mbps data networks, and will sport a GPS receiver, Wi-fi b/g, USB, and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. It’ll also feature a 3.15-megapixel autofocus cam, a front-side VGA cam up front for video calling, and a zoom slider below the screen.

The HTC Touch Diamond 2 will sport a 3.2-inch screen, HSDPA, Wi-fi b/g, bluetooth, and GPS. It doesn’t have much by way of hard buttons or a keyboard, but this smartie packs a better 5 megapixel main camera with autofocus and a secondary VGA camera up front.

The controls below the screen have been reworked for style and simplicity. To make way for a larger screen, HTC removed the navigation controls from the older Touch Diamond and replaced it with a zoom slider to make viewing Web pages and documents easier on the eyes.

No word on pricing just yet for both mobiles.
